A plane made an emergency landing at Raleigh-Durham International Airport Thursday morning after smoke was reported inside the aircraft.

According to RDU officials, the commercial flight rerouted to the airport, where it landed safely and was towed to a gate.

During the incident, no other planes could land for about 10 minutes, causing several aircraft to circle the airport. An American Airlines flight eventually landed around 8:40 a.m.

Emergency vehicles, including two fire trucks, surrounded the plane as it touched down. Fire and emergency crews assisted passengers and crew. The plane was then moved off the runway by emergency personnel using an airplane tug.
