Kim Kardashian is very, very rich but when it comes to parenting, the mother of four says she has the same struggles as the rest of us. Recently, on good friend Zoe Winkler’s podcast What in the Winkler ?! (yes, her father is acting icon Henry Winkler) the second oldest Kardashian sister said that being a mother is really, really hard.
“Even though we have great support systems and we have people around us, but sometimes in the middle of the night when [the kids are] all sleeping in your bed, kicking you and crying and waking up, like, it is…,” Kardashian said, without finishing the sentence. “It’s not something I talk about a lot because I feel like there is always a lot of judgment.”
Kardashian also said in the podcast interview that she’s raising the four kids basically by herself.
Well, if you’ve been following the Kardashian family (and even if not, you’ve probably heard a little something about them and their lives), Kim has two daughters North,11, and Chicago, 6, and two sons Saint, 8, and Psalm, 5, with her ex-husband Kanye West.
If you’re wondering why Kim is talking about how much of a challenge it is to be a mother, it’s because, to no one’s surprise, West is an absentee father, who has been traveling the world with his ‘wife’ Bianca Censori.
In October, a Kardashian ‘insider’ said that she’s basically on her own.
“Kanye is sadly not around very much. She’s pretty much a single mom,” the unnamed source told People. “Although she has help, it’s still a lot of work for her to balance and coordinate everything.”
Help? Kardashian has a mother, four sisters, and a brother, who, while all leading their separate lives we’re sure can sometimes share the babysitting duties like anyone in a big family does. She also has the resources that billionaires have, including, we’re sure, access to top-notch childcare, education, therapists and psychologists if need be, and no worries about her living conditions or bills. Having those things covered would take the weight off many a single mother.
Kardashian realizes her motherhood woes fall on deaf ears, except maybe to real-life friends like Winkler. When the comments were reported across entertainment platforms, they were met with snarky comments about privilege.
“It’s not something I talk about a lot,” she said, “because I feel like there is always a lot of judgment. Or people will always jump to the, ‘Oh, but you have the resources to have nannies and to have help.’”
And you do. So… yes, motherhood ain’t easy but resources make it easier. As for West, well, we’ve all seen what he’s up to and could have likely predicted that with his very real struggles, it would be hard for him to be a traditional or present parent.
All we can say is… we wish the kids the best.
