Winter weather is coming back to central North Carolina this week, prompting Governor Josh Stein to declare a State of Emergency on Tuesday. The Triangle is currently under a Winter Storm Warning.
A mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain is expected to begin Wednesday morning, intensifying through the afternoon before stopping later that night. Another round of precipitation may arrive on Thursday. The area could see between 2 to 3 inches of a sleet and snow mixture.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) has dispatched crews to treat roads, but officials warn that the storm’s complexity could make response efforts challenging.
Stein emphasized concerns over power outages and road safety, urging residents to stay off the roads if possible.
Hazardous conditions, including black ice, could persist into Friday as temperatures fluctuate.
