Historically, Russian courts rarely overturn a verdict, but they did opt to recalculate her time served. Taking Griner's pre-trial detainment into account, her overall sentence was slightly decreased to about eight years.

Brittney Griner could be transferred to another facility after her upcoming appeal hearing, which is scheduled for Oct 25.
